The short version

Accounts
Registering is optional — the violation lookup, calculator, and guides work without an account. If you do register, we store your email address and a securely hashed password so you can sign in. We use your email only to operate your account. We don't send marketing email and we don't share your address with anyone. If you want your account removed, reach out through the site (the Submit a Code form works for contact) and it will be deleted.
The DataQs drafter and uploaded documents
When you use the DataQs drafter, the text you enter and any documents you upload (inspection reports, citations, supporting evidence) are sent to a third-party AI provider — the OpenAI API — to generate your draft. Per the API terms we operate under, that data is not used to train the provider's models. On our side, uploaded files are processed to produce your draft and are not retained longer than needed to deliver the result. Don't upload anything you wouldn't include in an actual DataQs submission, and redact information you consider sensitive.
Analytics
We use a self-hosted instance of Umami (at stats.yuriance.net) to count page views and understand which tools get used. Umami is cookieless and doesn't collect personal information — no cross-site tracking, no fingerprinting profiles, and no data leaves infrastructure we control. There are no third-party ad or analytics scripts on the site.
Cookies
The site sets a session cookie only when you sign in, so you stay logged in. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
What we never do
- Sell, rent, or trade your data — to anyone, ever.
- Show ads or embed ad networks.
- Use your uploaded documents for anything other than generating your draft.
