The short version
VioCodes doesn't run advertising cookies, and it doesn't sell or share your data. The only things stored in your browser are what's needed to keep you signed in and to remember a few conveniences on your device. Most of the site works with no account and nothing stored at all.
Cookies vs. local storage
A cookie is a small piece of data a site stores in your browser and sends back on each request. Local storage is similar, but it stays on your device and is not transmitted with every request. VioCodes leans on local storage rather than tracking cookies — the items below live in your browser and are only read by the site running in your own tab.
What we store
Essential — sign-in session
If you create an account and log in, we store an authentication token and your basic profile (name, email, role) in your browser's local storage so you stay signed in between visits. Clearing it signs you out. Without an account, this is never set.
Functional — on-device conveniences
Small preferences that make the tools nicer to use, stored only on your device — for example a list of DataQs drafts you've opened in this browser (so they appear in your history) and whether you've dismissed a prompt like the feedback panel. These are never sent to anyone.
Analytics — privacy-friendly, cookieless
Any usage analytics we run are aggregate and cookieless — they don't set advertising identifiers or follow you across other sites. See the privacy policy for what that covers.
What we don't do
No third-party advertising cookies, no cross-site tracking pixels, no selling or renting your data, and no fingerprinting to build a profile of you. If that ever changes, this page and the “last updated” date will change with it, and anything non-essential will be opt-in.
Controlling and clearing storage
You're in control. You can clear cookies and local storage any time from your browser's settings (usually under “Privacy” or “Site data”), and you can block them entirely — the public lookup tools will still work, though you'll be signed out and on-device conveniences will reset. Deleting your account removes your server-side data too; see the privacy policy.
